Taxation of Land - Lesson 3 of 6
Picks up where Lesson 2 leaves off: once a charging provision applies, is there a way out? This session works through the exclusions in sections CB15C to CB23B that can remove or reduce a charge, including the main home exclusion for both the general provisions and the bright-line test (CB16, CB16A), the residential exclusion for minor subdivisions (CB17), business premises exclusions (CB19, CB20), the farmland and investment land exclusions (CB21–CB23), and relief available on death, relationship property settlements, and transfers involving family trusts. Participants learn which exclusion pairs with which charging provision — since none of them apply universally — and how bright-line rollover relief works for transfers between associated parties. Designed for accountants, lawyers, property professionals and informed owners, the session uses plain language and worked examples so you can confirm whether an exclusion genuinely applies before assuming a sale is tax-free. This lesson sets up Lesson 4's associated-person rules, Lesson 5's GST and the practical case studies in Lesson 6.
