Taxation of Land - Lesson 2 of 6
In this second part of the five part series we take a deep dive into the specific rules that turn a land sale into taxable income. Building on Lesson 1, this session works through each charging provision in Subpart CB in turn: the purpose-or-intention test at acquisition (CB6), the 2-year bright-line test for residential land (CB6A), the business-related provisions covering dealers, developers and builders (CB7–CB11), the development and subdivision rules (CB12 and CB13), the catch-all for land affected by an RMA factor (CB14), and the general scheme provision (CB3). Participants learn not just what each provision covers, but how they rank against one another, since getting the order right determines which deductions and exclusions are available. Designed for accountants, lawyers, property professionals and informed owners, the session uses plain language and worked examples so you can identify which provision is in play and why. This lesson prepares you for Lesson 3's exemptions, Lesson 4's associated-person rules, Lesson 5's GST and the practical case studies in Lesson 6.
